Some hours ago Diodato won Festival di Sanremo 2020 (39,3% of the votes) with his heartbreaking and touching song Fai rumore, written by himself and Edwyn Roberts, a young talented songwriter. And he accepted to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. He was my favourite and I really wanted him to go to Eurovision, and then my wish came true. The song actually lasts 3 minutes and 46 seconds, so it clearly needs a revamp.

Who is Diodato?

His full name is Antonio Diodato and he was born in 1981.  His Sanremo journey began in 2014, when he placed 2nd in the Newcomers section. After that, he joined the main competition in 2018 and, of course, in 2020.

Diodato will release his fourth album on 14th February 2020. His first album E forse sono pazzo was published in 2013. He published A ritrovar bellezza in 2014 and Cosa siamo diventati in 2017.

He has stated that his musical style is influenced by Pink Floyd and Radiohead, but also by Italian singers/songwriters Domenico Modugno (who represented Italy in 1958, 1959 and 1966), Fabrizio de André and Luigi Tenco.

Trivia: 1) in Stockholm he worked with Swedish DJs Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello (known under the name of Swedish House Mafia). 2) In 2019 he also acted in a film, Marco Danieli’s Un’avventura.

You can listen to his albums on Spotify. However, A ritrovar bellezza (whose songs are covers of famous Italian songs) is not available anymore.

Eurovision juries might like this song. I hope that the lyrics in Italian won’t prevent people from understanding his entry. Can’t wait to listen to it live. Good luck, Diodato!
